VENICE
The year is 1797. Napoleon’s army is advancing toward Venice. A group of people fleeing ahead of him have gathered in a small inn in Treviso, Italy, just outside Venice. The inn is run by the widow Angelica, who employs Sergio as a waiter / bookkeeper and Kisha, a bitter young serving woman with a dark past. Kisha claims she has a son who was taken from her at birth and is devoting her life to finding him. Various guests arrive, including Giacco, a wandering troubadour who was born in Venice but has not been back there in decades. He remembers the city in all its glory, and yearns to return to it before it falls to Napoleon. Also in the mix is a man called Revere, a disgraced captain of the Florentine army who has descended into a life of thievery and violence.
The Masks of Venice is a stage musical depicting many sides of human nature through modern pop- and rock-style songs alongside more traditional show tunes.
